FPSS would like to thank all those who are writing to express their support and concerns for Australian Stephen John Sutton, currently detained in Argentina.

Special thanks to Claudia García, UK resident born and raised in Argentina. Claudia has many friends in Argentina whom she has recently contacted and are happy to visit Stephen to provide moral support and help with his basic daily needs. Claudia's support has come at a time when Stephen's sister Elizabeth Ann Cluse had all but given up hope.

Very little detailed information has been gained over the past three years of Stephen's detainment but thanks to the efforts of the FPSS advocates, Claudia Garcia and others, we now know that Stephen has learnt to speak Spanish quiet well and he has no problems in communicating with others. Claudia has said that she will phone Marcos Paz prison and ask specific questions regarding Stephen's health, medication, etc. Her friends are trying to get a permit to visit Stephen. In the meantime, they will keep ringing the Marcos Paz Federal Unit to check on him.

"I know that detainees usually receive a better treatment when the police officers are aware that there are people out there watching them. I am sorry my friends were not able to able to visit Stephen yet, we are really working on it" says Claudia.

Others too, Pauline Lovitt George and Nina Herasan of Australia are also working quietly behind the scenes to generate support for Stephen Sutton.

FPSS are still awaiting a response from Virginia Shoppee, Amnesty researcher on Argentina, who was forwarded correspondence from our advocates on 17 May 2005 via Josefina Salomon, Americas Press Officer for Amnesty International.

We are also awaiting responses from correspondence sent on 7 June 2005 to the Prison Fellowship International General Secretariat, Mr. Ronald Nikkel and from His Excellency, Australian Ambassador to Argentina Peter Hussin. The Australian Department of Foreign Affairs has stated that Stephen's hearing is scheduled for July 6, 2005.

Show your support by directing 'respectful' letters to our Foreign Minister His Excellency Alexander Downer, requesting an open and fair trial for Mr. Stephen John Sutton.
