 Established in 1994 Thonburi Remand Prison is one of the three remand prisons in Bangkok area. It takes in custody of remandees and convicted prisoners whose sentence term are not over 7 years or not over 14 years in case of elderly prisoners. As of January 2005, there are 3,396 prisoners and 256 prison staff.
Thonburi Remand Prison is renowned for its excellent public management, cleanliness of the environment and prison food, meaningful treatment programs, and participation with the community. Samples of rehabilitative programs run by Thonburi Remand Prison are:
- Therapeutic Community for drug-addicted prisoners
- Program for violent prisoners
- Program for elderly prisoners
- Arts class
The prison's "One-Stop-Service" is where the relatives can easily get information on the prisoner such as prisoner's building number, visiting schedule, prisoner's class, good-time-allowance days, parole estimation day, etc. Relatives shall receive good service when they wish to visit or to deposit necessary items for prisoners.
