Health of Pakistani prisoners in Indian jails deteriorating

NEW DELHI, July 04(Online): Pakistani prisoners imprisoned in Indian jails have entered their 10th day of hunger strike and are said to be in critical condition .

These prisoners have been on hunger strike for the last ten days and due to their worsening condition, they are admitted in the hospital .

The imprisonment period of these Pakistani detainees, who have passed large part of their lives in Indian jails, has been completed long before but their release is far away .

On the appeal of these prisoners, the Supreme Court has already issued orders for their freedom .

One of the prisoners Muhammad Babar of Lahore told BBC that he doesn't know as to where his freedom is trapped .

Another detainee Muhammad Azeem of Faisalabad said he has already completed the punishment by the court but the government of India is still not ready to free him .

"Do I not have right to live the rest of two or three years of my life among my relative", he maintained in an emotional tone .

Pak-India to accelerate process of prisoners' exchange

LAHORE, June 25 (Online): Pakistan and India have agreed to expedite the process of exchange of prisoners languishing in different jails.

Knowledgeable sources confided in Online that an agreement to this effect was reached during a recently concluded meeting between Pakistan Rangers and Indian Border Security Force (BSF).

The two sides agreed 'in principle' to speed up the process of exchange of prisoners particularly those who have already completed their term of imprisonment would be released soon. The two sides also stressed the need of accelerating legal procedure in this regard, sources said.

Informed sources said presently eight hundred Pakistani prisoners are languishing in different Indian jails. Ninety among them crossed over the border mistakenly while the rest were involved in different crimes including smuggling. On the other hand there are one hundred and fifty Indian prisoners in Pakistani jails.

ISLAMABAD: Pakistani prisoners in Indian jails who have completed their sentence term have been on hunger strike for the last ten days. Some of them have been admitted to the hospital in serious condition. Hyderabad man dies from torture: A Pakistani young man, who was detained on false charges of espionage, died in an Indian jail being subjected to torture and violence by Indian intelligence agencies.

He was picked up by the Indian intelligence personnel for alleged espionage four years ago. The charges were never proved in a court. Mumtaz Khan, a Pakistani national, crossed into Jodhpur at Attari on legal papers. He was taken into custody by an Indian secret agency on February 9, 2000 and was shifted to an undisclosed location. He died in Amritsar jail on June 24, 2004 after spending time in various jails and torture cells. Lal Deno Mangi, a resident of Hyderabad city, contacted Mr Khan’s family members to bring his body to Pakistan. The body will be brought to Pakistan in Hyderabad within a week. Mr Khan was an employee of the Municipal Corporation Hyderabad. The late Khan’s mother had appealed to the chief justice of India through Advocate Qadir Bakhsh. online
